New Egypt bowling teams roll out good starts

By: Kyle Moylan
Despite being caught a little off guard by Bordentown, the New Egypt High School girls’ bowling team completed its first week with a 3-1 record.
"I didn’t think Bordentown would be that good," New Egypt Coach Mike Search noted after his girls were defeated 4-0 and by an overall pincount of 2328-2104 this past Friday at Papp’s.
Bordentown had a fantastic freshman and an unexpected senior in its lineup. When New Egypt hosts Bordentown later in the season, Search expects the outcome to be different, though.
"There is a homecourt advantage in bowling," Search said. "I think we’re going to beat them at home. There might be a situation where we tie each other in the division, but you never know. It’s a long season."
   Against Bordentown, Taryn Pulvermuller bowled games of 143, 132 and 137 for a series of 412. Olivia Miller had a series of 523 (208, 157 and 158). Crystal Santiago bowled a 362 series (136, 109 and 117), Amy Kobren a 338 (112, 115 and 111) and Nicole Kukoda a 467 (141, 151 and 177).
Pulvermuller, Santiago and Kobren are seniors, Miller a junior and Kukoda is a freshman.
Prior to Bordentown, New Egypt won three matches in a row, starting wth a 3-1 win over Delran on December 6 by a pincount of 1996-1946.
   Pulvermuller had a 470 (141, 190, 139) series, Miller a 401 (137, 141 and 123), Kobren a 372 (114, 133 and 125), Santiago a 315 (110, 93 and 112) and Kukoda a 438 (135, 157 and 146).
New Egypt followed with a 4-0 win the next day against Burlington Township. The total pincount was 2181-1806.
   Kukoda led the way with a 524 series, which featured games of 147, 187 and 190. Pulvermuller had a 512 series (163, 127 and 222), Miller a 443 (167, 134 and 142), Santiago a 340 (131, 110 and 99) and Kobren a 362 (139, 115 and 108).
Win number three was last Thursday over Holy Cross. New Egypt won 4-0 with a pincount of 2306-1631.
   Pulvermuller had games of 148, 179 and 189 for a 516 series. Kukoda had a 503 series (168, 157 and 178). Rounding out the scores, Miller had a 477 (162, 159 and 156), Santiago a 427 (106, 167 and 154) and Kobren a 383 (121, 117 and 145).
The New Egypt boys are off to a 2-2 start. They also ran into a problem against a very talented Bordentown team this past Friday.
Despite the fact New Egypt lost the match by a score of 4-0 and a pincount of 2969-2751, Don Bunce came out a winner. Bunce rolled games of 237, 231 and 211 for a 679 series.
"He bowled unbelievable," Search said. "One of his goals was to bowl a 675 series. I owe him a pizza."
Because he is so familar with the lanes at Papps, Ken Meleta, a sophomore, was put into the lineup. He responded with games of 156, 179 and 171 for a 506 series.
Antrobus had games of 152, 199 and 128 for a 479 series. Reynolds had games of 225, 202 and 176 for a 603 series. Rounding out the results, Adam Laczny bowled a 137. Oyebanji had games of 165 and 182.
New Egypt was also defeated by Burlington Township, 3-1. The pincount was 2425-2352.
   Oyebanji had a 471 series (157, 174 and 140), Laczny a 477 (171, 161 and 145), Reynolds a 437 (150, 126 and 161) and Bunce a 554 (187, 167 and 200). Antrobus (129), Mike Hedge (158) and Alex Funk (139) each bowled one game.
After being taken out after one game against Burlington Township, Antrobus responded with a 601 series (189, 231 and 201) in New Egypt’s 3-1 win over Holy Cross. The pincount was 2444-2410.
   Oyebanji had a 411 series (142, 169 and 100), Laczny a 446 (147, 148 and 151), Reynolds a 502 (173, 135 and 194) and Bunce a 464 (169, 149 and 146).
New Egypt had also opened the season with a 4-0 win over Delran. The pincount in that match was 2671-2158.
   Oyebanji had a 456 (157, 174 and 125), Laczny a 555 (177, 210 and 168), Antrobus a 559 (212, 177 and 170), Reynolds a 531 (136, 208 and 187) and Bunce a 570 (245, 192 and 133).
"In the past, the boys have been getting closer to .500," Search noted. "I think this year we’re going to get over .500. It looks like a good year for us."
