The weather outside might be frightful or delightful on Thursday, Dec. 30, but on the third floor of the Princeton Public Library, it will be Snow Day.
The day will put the spotlight on winter, with snow-related arts and crafts, science demonstrations and beloved snow stories.
During craft sessions at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., children will create snowmen and other snowy creatures using marshmallows, felt, cotton and other everyday materials.
Favorite snow stories for children ages 2 to 4 will be read at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., with stories for 4- to 8-year-olds being offered at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Throughout the day, children will be invited to design and cut their own snowflakes.
Bill Barnard, a Snow Day veteran, will give a demonstration using liquid nitrogen at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The retired chemist will help children discover how cold something really can become by demonstrating the effects of liquid nitrogen on soap suds, flowers and even bananas.
"This is happening all day," said Youth Services librarian Jan Johnson. "People can celebrate the beauty and fun of winter as they enjoy the warmth of our library."
The library is located at 65 Witherspoon St. in Princeton Borough. Special assistance is available for library customers with disabilities by calling the library, at (609) 924-9529, 48 hours before any program to arrange for accommodations.
