RED BANK -— Borough police are investigating an alleged assault on two Hispanic males that took place in the early morning hours of Christmas day.
On Dec. 25 at approximately 1:39 a.m., Patrolman Michael Jastrzemski responded to a residence on Shrewsbury Avenue, where the two victims, a 34-year-old male and a 20-year-old male, both Hispanic, gave their statements.
The 20-year-old victim reported he was walking home from work on Shrewsbury Avenue when he passed two black males at the corner of Shrewsbury Avenue and Drs. James Parker Boulevard.
One of the black males allegedly yelled at the victim, asking why he had offended his girlfriend, at which point the two unknown subjects began walking toward the victim.
The victim said he began to run from the subjects north on Shrewsbury Avenue.
The 34-year-old victim was reportedly standing on the sidewalk, talking on the telephone, and was not initially involved. He reportedly attempted to assist the first victim.
The two black male subjects allegedly caught up with the two victims and began to yell at them, when a third black male driving a blue Volkswagen, possibly a Golf, pulled up and reportedly exited the vehicle holding a baseball bat.
The third male subject allegedly struck the 20-year-old victim on the back and head with the bat and struck the 34-year-old victim on the arm.
The resident of the home in front of which the incident occurred reportedly came out of his house to assist the victims, but was chased back inside by the subject swinging the bat, who then reportedly broke all of the windows in the front of the house.
All three black males then reportedly climbed into the Volkswagen and drove off, heading north on Shrewsbury Avenue.
The 34-year-old victim was treated and released from Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, for injuries to his arm. According to Lt. Stephen McCarthy, the 20-year-old victim did not request medical attention.
The subject who committed the assault was described by the victims as a black male, between 18 and 20 years of age, with dreadlocks and wearing a black jacket.
Investigator Michael Frazee is conducting the follow-up investigation, and the police department asks that anyone with information concerning the incident contact the Red Bank Police Department at (732) 530-2719.
