AROUND CRANBURY: Calling all young artists- the Gourgand Gallery wants you

AROUND CRANBURY By Lorraine Sedor From second grade through high school, the Gourgand invites students to submit original artwork by Jan. 21.

With our first dusting of snow this past week, I have been asked to remind residents to shovel their sidewalks as soon as possible after a snowfall.
With so many people walking for exercise these days, clearing sidewalks is not only a courtesy, it’s a safety issue.
Also, try to remember your elderly neighbors who may need assistance keeping their paths clear.

During the month of February, the Cranbury Arts Review Committee (ARC) will host its third annual exhibit of works by Cranbury students in the Gourgaud Gallery.
All students in grades 2-12 are invited to submit up to two entries for the exhibit, which will be called "Young at Art III."
All works will be subject to a jury process undertaken by members of ARC. The deadline for submissions is Friday, Jan. 21, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
All pieces should be dropped off at the Gourgaud Gallery. Artwork should not be delivered to the Cranbury School.
Application forms have been distributed to various schools and should be returned with the art submission. Additional application forms may be obtained from ARC or by e-mail at [email protected].
All artwork must be properly matted and framed prior to submission and must be wired for hanging.
Saw tooth hooks and clip frames will not be accepted. All work, except those done in oil or acrylic, must be covered with glass or Plexiglas.
Accepted works will be featured in the Gourgaud Gallery during the month of February.

Bundle up and join an owl prowl on Friday, Jan. 14, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Rick Lear, a Stony Brook-Millstone Association naturalist, and Cranbury birder Kathy Easton will give a presentation on New Jersey owls.
Participants will then have an opportunity to do an owl pellet dissection. The presentation will be followed by a walk in the Cranbury Brook Preserve and calls to any owls that might be prowling in the area woods.
"In Search of Owls" is co-sponsored by the Cranbury Environmental Commission and will be held in the Gourgaud Gallery in Town Hall. Refreshments will be served.
The owl prowl is open to Cranbury families and is suitable for children 6 years and older. There is no charge, but registration is required and space is limited.
To register, please call the Buttinger Nature Center at (609) 737-7592.
