The Historical Society of Princeton’s annual meeting Jan. 20 will feature a presentation by U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (D-12) on "Einstein’s Legacy in Princeton: Intellect, Invention, Technology."
The annual Lewis B. Cuyler lecture will be held 8:15 p.m. at Auditorium 104, in Princeton University’s Friends Center at the corner of William and Olden streets. Parking is available in Lots 10 and 10A on William Street. The society’s annual meeting will be held from 8 to 8:15 p.m. The public is invited.
The year 2005 marks the 100th anniversary of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, Quantum Theory and Theory of Brownian Motion.
The lecture by Rep. Holt launches Princeton’s yearlong celebration of Einstein’s "Miracle Year." The year also commemorates the 50th anniversary of Einstein’s death.
The Historical Society is coordinating a town-wide celebration titled "Think Einstein" with other community organizations including Princeton Regional Schools, Princeton Public Library, Princeton University, Institute for Advanced Study, The Arts Council of Princeton, Princeton University and Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce. Plans include a concert of Einstein’s violin music, a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Institute and children’s programs.
Rep. Holt is the former assistant director of the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. He has been a physics researcher, inventor, congressional staff member and consultant for the U.S. State Department. Rep. Holt has been studying the innovative, high-tech industries on Princeton’s Route 1 corridor and their role in central New Jersey’s economic future.
Refreshments will be served after the lecture. For more information, call the Historical Society at (609) 921-6748.
