The Rape Care Program of 180 Turning Lives Around, Hazlet, will present a program on the role of male support in the area of sexual assault and violence.
According to a press release from 180, the definition of victim has been expanded to not only include the individual who was physically assaulted, but also the individual’s family members and loved ones whose lives have also been affected by the violence. The program will address the treatment of these secondary victims and offer ways in which males can become part of the solution and help in the healing. The program will be held Jan. 6 from 7-9 p.m. at Monmouth Medical Center, 300 Second Ave., Long Branch, in the community meeting room. Admission is free, but preregistration is required; call (732) 264-4433.
The Rape Care Program is seeking volunteers to become rape care advocates and members of the Monmouth County Sexual Assault Response Team. No prior experience is required; training will be provided. A full day of orientation will be held Jan. 15 at Monmouth Medical Center, with subsequent sessions on Thursday evenings and alternate Saturdays. A full-day session, including final examination and graduation, will be held April 9. For more information, call (732) 264-4360, ext. 253, or e-mail [email protected] by Jan. 10. Callers should leave their name, address, telephone number and e-mail address, and an application and information packet will be mailed to them.
