Only one Hopewell Township resident has applied as a candidate for the school board seat vacated by Lisa Marin Main on Dec. 31.
The deadline for receipt of applications was 4 p.m. Dec. 30.
To be interviewed shortly by the Hopewell Valley Regional Board of Education will be Judy Karp of 14 Elm Street, Hopewell. A school district spokeswoman said the board probably "will talk to her sometime early next week."
Board President Bill Hills recently said it is likely the board will appoint Ms. Main’s replacement before the April school election, when a permanent replacement must be elected.
According to Board Secretary John Nemeth, the replacement would serve until the reorganization meeting following the April 2005 annual school election.
According to the district spokeswoman, Ms. Karp is a six-year resident of Hopewell Township.
Ms. Karp, who could not be reached for comment, is secretary of the Hopewell Elementary Parent Teacher Association. She also is a former member of the Hopewell Township Master Plan Advisory Committee.
