Obituaries for week of Jan. 6

Michael Girard
   Michael William Girard Sr., 89, died Dec. 30.
   He was born in Trenton and moved to Lawrenceville in 1950. During World War II, he was a U.S. Army PFC serving as a medic in the Medical Service Corps, 168th Station Hospital, Warrington, England.
   He retired from the Mercer County Department of Corrections after 29 years of service and was a member of PBA 167. He was an avid golfer and member of the Princeton Golf Club and enjoyed horse racing, singing and dancing.
   During his illness, he continued to serve the needs of others. He was the inspiration for a VNA Hospice educational video and a participant in the Rutgers Oral History Archives of World War II.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine Angelillo and Frank Girard, his twin Vincent, and brothers Anthony and Frank.
   He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Madeline D’Agostino Girard; his two children, Kathlinda and her husband Gary Saretzky, and Michael Jr. and his wife Diane; his grandchildren, Alexander, Nicholas, and Anya Saretzky, Michael Girard III and fiancée Suzanne Potts, Jeremy, Jenifer and Jesse Girard; and by his great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Julien Foley; and many nephews and nieces; as well as his caregivers Jody Hastings, Gracie Marks and Annie Hvasta.
   Funeral services were Monday at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Director, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville with the clergy of St. James Roman Catholic Church of Trenton officiating.
   Entombment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum.
   Viewing and prayer service was Sunday at the funeral home.

Eleanor Hibbs
   Eleanor Cooper Hibbs, 79, died Dec. 30 at home.
   Born in Trenton, she was a lifelong Pennington-Lawrenceville area resident before moving to Hopewell. She was a professional secretary for ETS in Lawrence for more than 30 years.
   She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Pennington Fire Company and the Lawrenceville Fire Company. She enjoyed being with her family and loved animals and sports-fishing, bowling and ice skating.
   Daughter of the late Chester C. and May Woolsey Cooper, wife of the late George L. Hibbs, mother of the late Alvin C. Hibbs, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George I. and Amy G. Hibbs of Hopewell; a brother, Irv Cooper of Hightstown; three grandchildren, Dena, Julie and George Hibbs; and a great-grandson, Walter James Gadsby.
   Funeral services were Wednesday at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington with the Rev. Craig Lauterbach, pastor of the Lambertville Assembly of God Church officiating.
   Burial was in the Lawrenceville Cemetery.

Regina Smith
   Regina Smith, 90, formerly of Lawrenceville, died Jan. 28 in Hernando-Pasco Hospice Center in Dade City, Fla.
   Born in Trenton, she resided in Lawrence Township most of her life before moving to Lutz, Fla., two years ago.
   Daughter of the late Daniel and Josephine Schmidt Jantos, wife of the late William C. Smith, mother of the late Joan Schnorbus and Carolyn Parysz and grandmother of the late Wayne Parysz, she is survived by a daughter, Sandra Fike of Lutz, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
   Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville.
   Burial was in the Ewing Cemetery.
   There were no calling hours.
   Arrangements were under the direction of Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, Lawrenceville.
Peter Curtin
   Peter P. Curtin Jr., 62, died Dec. 29 at his home.
   Born in Jersey City, he lived in Lawrenceville since 1973.
   He worked in various positions in the public sector. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
   He was a graduate of Seton Hall Prep School and Seton Hall University. He was a fellow at the Kennedy Institute of Politics in Boston, Mass. He was very involved in the Irish-American community.
   Son of the late Peter P. Sr. and Alice Redden Curtin, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Pegi and David Connors and Sali Curtin; one granddaughter, Maggie Connors; his former wife, Margaret Curtin, all of Long Island, N.Y.; one sister, Maura McGreevey of Hamilton Township; one nephew, Brian McGreevey; and many friends.
   Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at St. James Church 115 E. Delaware Ave., Pennington.
   Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
   Calling hours were Sunday at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing.
