The Lakewood BlueClaws, single-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, will have plenty of experience to offer area coaches participating in the third annual BlueClaws Coaches Clinic on Saturday, Feb. 5, at FirstEnergy Park.
Philadelphia Phillies hitting coach Milt Thompson will lead the crew of professional instructors.
Joining the 11-year big leaguer will be 2004 BlueClaws and current Reading Phillies pitching coach Tom Filer. Also attending will be 2005 Clearwater Threshers skipper Greg Legg. The former major league infielder guided the inaugural Lakewood BlueClaws squad in 2001.
Legg has been a player or coach in the Philadelphia system since being drafted in 1982. Leading instruction on injury prevention and treatment will be BlueClaws team physician, Dr. Andrew Harrison and BlueClaws team co-chiropractor, Dr. Anthony Cifelli. Both carry extensive expertise in studying and treating sports injuries.
The clinic is designed for all area baseball coaches, from Little League to high school levels, and will include instruction in hitting, pitching, fielding, base running, and injury prevention and treatment.
This interactive event will take place in the batting cages, luxury suite level and clubhouse of FirstEnergy Park from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be limited to the first 200 coaches to register. Last year’s event sold out.
For those who attended last year’s event, the 2005 clinic will include new content from our instructors.
Registration is $35, and will include breakfast, lunch, a T-shirt and a BlueClaws gift bag. All participants must be preregistered. The registration form may be picked up at FirstEnergy Park or on the BlueClaws Web site at www.lakewoodblueclaws.com.
