Emanuel A. Vito

Mr. Vito, 67, of Cookstown, New Hanover Township, died Jan. 1 at home. Born in Newark, he had lived in Freehold Township for 25 years and in Bedford, Va., for eight years before moving to Cookstown five years ago. Mr. Vito was a supervisor for Owens Illinois, Freehold Township, for 13 years. While residing in Virginia, he was employed by the Bedford Township School System. He was a communicant of St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Jobstown, and a former communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. Mr. Vito is survived by his wife, Christina Mucci Vito; a son and daughter-in-law, Emanuel Jr. and Jennifer Vito, of Howell; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene and Bruce Hornik of Millstone, Yvonne and Tim Boyle of Washington Crossing, Pa., and Maria and Manny Chirico of Howell; a brother, Louis R. Vito of Chester; and four grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Andrews’s Church. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Jose Antonio Martinez

Mr. Martinez, 73, of Freehold, died Dec. 30 at home. Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, he had lived in Perth Amboy before moving to Freehold two years ago. Mr. Martinez was a warehouse worker for Tops Appliance, Edison, before his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Laura Queseda Martinez; a son, Giovanni Vazquez of New Brunswick; two daughters, Sonia Serrano of Freehold and Betty Crespo of Perth Amboy; four brothers, David Martinez of Queens, N.Y., and Serafin Martinez, Willie Martinez and Nelson Valentin, all of Puerto Rico; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

Walter Tanner Jr.

Mr. Tanner, 65, of Barnegat, died Jan. 7 at Southern Ocean County Hospital, Manahawkin. Born in Bayonne, he resided in Middletown Township for 30 years before moving to Barnegat. Mr. Tanner was a manager at AT&T, Morristown, for 30 years, retiring in 1998. He served with the U.S. Air Force during peace time. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown, and was an active Boy Scout leader. Mr. Tanner is survived by his wife, Maryann Terrano Tanner; a son and daughter-in-law, Walter III and Diane Tanner of the Perrineville section of Millstone; a daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and William Patterson of Jackson; a sister, Claudia Dunn of Basking Ridge; and four granddaughters. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements. Florence Levin

Mrs. Levin, 87, of the Wickatunk section of Marlboro, died Dec. 31 at her daughter’s home in Howell. Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Wickatunk for the past 40 years. Mrs. Levin was one of the founding members of the Freehold Chapter of Deborah Hospital Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her husband, Abraham Levin, in 1979. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, William Levin of Warrington, Va., and Stewart and Lois Levin of Howell; two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann and Charles Grega of Howell, and Nancy Levin of Wickatunk; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Funeral services were held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, with Rabbi Laurence Malinger officiating. Interment followed at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin.
