Bertha A. Sheppard, 91, died Monday at Capital Health System, Mercer Campus, Trenton.
Born in Skillman, Ms. Sheppard was a resident of Hopewell.
A graduate of the Mercer Medical Center School of Nursing in 1935. Ms. Sheppard did post graduate work in operating room procedures from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate Hospital in 1941. She also earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Seton Hall in 1953.
Miss Sheppard retired from Mercer Medical Center in 1979 where she was an instructor in the operating room and then volunteered in the same capacity for 20 years.
She was a member of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church Service Circle, the Hopewell 39ers, the Hopewell Valley Leisure Club, Montgomery Senior Citizen Club, Hopewell Friendship Group, Hopewell Valley American Legion Post 339 and was a trustee of the Old School Baptist Meeting House.
Ms. Sheppard served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II with the 70th Station Hospital.
Preceded in death by a nephew Dennis Sheppard, she is survived by a niece Sharon Sheppard of Ewing; nephews Gregory Sheppard and his wife Judith of Trenton, Robin Sheppard and his wife Patricia of Lawrenceville, Dr. William Reed and his wife Helene of Mountain Top, Pa.; a sister-in-law Dorothy Sheppard of Lawrenceville; a great-nephew Kevin Sheppard; and great-nieces Leslie, Katie and Carrie Ann Sheppard.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cromwell-Immordino Memorial Home, 71 E. Prospect St., Hopewell, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Robinson officiating.
Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.
Calling hour will be Saturday from 10-11 a.m.
