Although the Bordentown Regional High School boys’ varsity basketball team lost a 89-76 home game to Burlington City on Tuesday night, the "juice" was back in the building.
The Scotties hung with the Blue Devils for the better portion of the game and reminded their fans of previous classic match-ups between the two squads. The game was fast-paced and exciting.
Sam McDuffie, who scored a team-high 31 points, and Jon Kohler, who netted 11 points, have re-energized the Scotties as a unit. And Danny Sasso (16 points including a pair of 3’s) and Thomas Knapp (14 points with a 3-pointer) have joined in on the fun.
"I think we played well. City’s just an incredibly athletic team," said Mark Drew, who is also reminding people why he had always been considered one of the better coaches in the league.
Sasso, who should shatter all Bordentown 3-point records he doesn’t hold already, canned four treys and scored 23 points to lead Bordentown to a 73-64 win over Lindenwold last Friday at Bordentown.
McDuffie had 18 points in the contest and Knapp contributed 14 points to the win. Kohler (11 points) and Mike Pracko also scored for the Scotties who broke out to a 19-10 first- quarter lead on their way to a victory.
On Saturday, Bordentown defeated Allentown, 77-69, at Bordentown.
"In the Allentown game my team played awesome. It was a great game," remarked Drew.
McDuffie was the Scotties’ big gun with 30 points. But Kohler had one of his finest offensive efforts of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Knapp (10 points) and Brotherton (four points) also tallied in the win.
According to Drew, Bordentown is at a point where it can beat anybody or lose to anybody if it doesn’t play well. The Scotties downed Lindenwold and Allentown and gave Burlington City a very competitive game. Those are all good teams it played.
The juice is back. Let’s hope it never leaves again. Bordentown (6-2) is scheduled to host Maple Shade today (Thursday). Bordentown is scheduled at Westampton Tech on Saturday and at Delran on Tuesday.
