Manville students are learning Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) isn’t just about dollars and cents.
It’s also about a sense of community.
In addition to knowledge of economics, word processing and computer programming, at state and national conferences the team will be judged on community outreach projects it has undertaken throughout the year.
Before Christmas, students collected $220 in donations for the USO phone home program, and collected soda can tabs to support the Ronald McDonald Houses.
Jan. 20, Manville’s FBLA will host a breakfast for veterans as part of its "Adopt a Soldier" program. The group received a $1,000 grant from the Somerset County United Way to fund the project.
FBLA advisor Nancy Ostazewski said the club also plans to organize aid for victim’s of last month’s tsunami in Southeast Asia.
The New Jersey FBLA chapter with the most community service hours logged between Oct. 1 and Feb. 1 will be recognized at the state leadership conference in March.
