The New Jersey Federation of Baseball Umpires will hold its clinic on the following dates: Feb. 22 and 24, March 1, 3, 8, 10, 17 and 22, with an exam on March 24. The Old Bridge Knights seventh-grade travel basketball team made it to the semifinal round of the South Brunswick Holiday Tournament in the eighth-grade division. What the Knights lack in size and strength they made up for in skill and determination. They are looking forward to continuing their undefeated season in the North Brunswick League and Central Jersey, where they have one loss. The Knights are Tyler Abad, Femi Adeleye, Alec Alspach, Josh Daniell, Ted Greffin, Mike King, Stuart Luciow, Jimmy Meindl, Joey Reyes and Mike Utset. The Knights are coached by Gene Utset and Ian Daley.

The Old Bridge Junior Knights travel basketball team continued its dominant play, winning the 11U division in the South Brunswick Holiday Tournament with a hard-fought 40-38 win over the Monroe Falcons. The team of Matt Callari, Julian Daley, Jared DeBrizzi, Alejandro Diaz, Yousef Elhusseini, Jeremy Garcia, Aaron Hart, Jordin Henry, Brian Knoth, and Zachary Zimmerlink saved their best for this tournament, winning all five games by an average of 13 points over some very tough and determined opponents.

The Knights, who are coached by Ian Daley and Gene Utset, will resume their regular season play in the North Brunswick and Central Jersey leagues this weekend.

The Old Bridge Jaguars U11 boys travel soccer team is looking for players for the spring season. The Jaguars play in the Monmouth Ocean Soccer Association (MOSA) travel league in the National 2 flight. To be eligible, the player’s birth date must be between Aug. 1, 1993, and July 31, 1994. The Sayreville Little League will hold a general meeting and final registration for the upcoming season on Feb. 1 and 2 at 7 p.m. at the Mickey Sedlak Recreation Building on Dolan Street. Boys and girls ages 5-16 on or before July 31, 2005, are eligible. Registration is $65 for one child, $110 for two, and $140 for a family of three or more. A $100 work bond check is also required at time of registration. This check is refundable at the end of the season after nine complete hours of volunteer work. Only registration checks are cashed at this time. Two separate checks are required. Also required are the child’s original birth certificate, and a stamped, self-addressed envelope for the return of the work bond check.

The Old Bridge Coaches Association will hold its first Dodge Ball Tournament in March. The association is looking for teams, to be comprised of local residents, employees of the Old Bridge Board of Education, or alumni of the Old Bridge Township school system. The St. Thomas Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a free throw shooting contest on Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. in the St. Thomas gymnasium in Old Bridge (St. Thomas Plaza, off Route 18). All boys and girls ages 10-14 are eligible. Winners in each category will go on to participate in the district competition scheduled for February. Eti Ebewo, of Parlin, is a member of the New Jersey Institute of Technology women’s basketball team. NJIT, a member of the Division II Central Athletic Collegiate Conference, is 4-7 overall and 3-3 in CACC play heading into this week’s action. Ebewo has played in six games this season, averaging 1.5 points and .7 rebounds in 3.5 minutes. A sophomore forward, she is a graduate of Old Bridge High School.

The Old Bridge Lacrosse Association Youth Lacrosse Program is for boys and girls in grades four through eight. The season begins in March and ends in June. Registration for the spring will be held Jan. 29 at the South Old Bridge Fire Department Engine 1 on Appleby Avenue and Englishtown Road from 2-5 p.m. The registration fee is $90 per player. The Sayrewoods South Little League will hold registration on Jan. 21 (7:30-9 p.m.) at the SWSLL Clubhouse on Fox Street (off Cindy Street). Registration fee is $75 for one child, $100 for two or more, and $50 for T-ball (5-year-olds). A work bond of $100 is due at registration. Upon completion of 12 hours of work, the bond money will be promptly refunded. The 2005 season includes all boys and girls born between Aug. 1, 1988, and July 31, 2000. A candy fund-raiser will be distributed at registration, and money will be collected at this time. A copy of the player’s birth certificate is required at registration for all new players and will be retained for future references.
