MONROE — Township police are investigating the theft of two cargo trailers containing approximately $199,000 worth of brooms, urinal valves and door locks from an area warehouse over the weekend.
Detective Pete Piro said Wednesday that the theft of the two trailers from the Howard Berger Co., which handles distribution for hardware suppliers, on Englehard Drive was reported Monday.
Detective Piro said one of the trailers, which contained the door locks, arrived at the warehouse on Jan. 6 and was parked at a loading dock. The other, which contained the urinal valves and brooms, arrived on Jan. 7 and was parked in the warehouse’s parking lot, he said.
Detective Piro said no special security precautions had been taken to protect the trailers and that the thieves probably hooked them up to trucks and drove away. He said there are no suspects in the case.
Detective Sgt. Lawrence Linke said thefts of this kind were not uncommon and that the trailers would likely be found, without the cargo, in northern New Jersey within the next few weeks.
If the trailers are found, the case will be turned over to the New Jersey State Police’s cargo theft unit, Detective Sgt. Linke said.
