Metro Salon of Marlboro will hold a benefit on Jan. 23 from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. to raise funds for the tsunami victims. Several staff members will volunteer their time to provide services for clients who will make donations in lieu of payment for those services. All services for hair styling and nail care will be available that day, except for hair straightening and extensions. All proceeds form the day will go to the Red Cross International Response Fund. No appointments will be taken that day, and clients will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. Metro has a staff of more than 50 members. Wegmans Food Markets, with a location in Manalapan, announced that it has donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross International Response Fund for tsunami relief. The family-owned food chain, which is based in Rochester, N.Y., also implemented a program in its stores for customers to contribute to the fund.

Manalapan Eye Associates LLC announced that Dr. Rajeev K. Raghu, a New Jersey State board-certified optometric physician, has obtained his fellowship from the American Academy of Optometry. Raghu is one of four and the youngest physician in New Jersey to obtain his fellowship from the academy.

Founded in 1922, the goal of the American Academy of Optometry is to maintain and enhance excellence in optometric practice. Academy fellows represent all facets of the profession. Approximately 55 percent are optometrists in private practice.

Dr. Raghu received his fellowship in primary eye care/ocular disease. The two-year process requires case report reviews, leadership qualifications and a final oral examination. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians in December 2004. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the American Academy of Optometry and an affiliate of the TLC Laser Centers Inc.

Dr. Raghu is a graduate of Temple University and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where he received clinical honors in primary and low vision care, was the national president of the American Optometric Student Association, and a Gold Key National Honors recipient.
