Lady Patriots are faring quite well on the lanes

The Colonia High School girls bowling team (15-3) is having an impressive year, currently sitting in second place in the White Division of the Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC).

Unfortunately, the team that leads the division is Woodbridge High School, who Colonia lost to on Thursday.

The Patriot team, comprised of Rachel Adriano, Nicolette Ardiente, Joanna Drzaszo, Laura Froongian, Veronica Mizerak and Sarah Winters, ranks among the best the GMC has to offer this year. Winters has the highest average on the team at 183, while Veronica Mizerak isn’t far behind with a 176 average.

“The team doesn’t know how good they really are. They are very talented individuals who work extremely well together as a team,” tells coach Tom Lagowski.

The Pats bowled well last Monday when they beat South Brunswick and South River. Winters bowled her high game of the year, 255 on way to a 613 series.

“Sarah is an extremely gifted bowler,” Lagowski said.

Unfortunately, the team lost its momentum when it lost to Woodbridge on Thursday.

“I was disappointed with our effort, but I know we can bounce back,” Lagowski said. “I knew all along we had a good team. I knew we had the potential to make some noise in our division. I am rather surprised that we have been able to remain bowling at such a high level all year.

“Laura and Stacey are seniors and Veronica is a junior. Their experience has carried our team a long way. This has been a fun year and the fact that we are bowling to our potential makes me feel good.”

On Saturday, the Patriots participated in the Central Jersey Winter Classic, where they finished fourth with a total of 2,690, behind only Brick Township, Woodbridge and Jackson.
