A 51-year-old, Lester, Pa., man had to be removed from his tractor-trailer by the Monmouth Junction Fire Department on Tuesday morning after a head-on accident with another tractor-trailer on Route 535.
The accident occurred at 10 a.m. near the N.J. Turnpike overpass on Route 535 (Cranbury Road) and closed the road for two-and-a-half hours, police said.
Traffic was diverted at the Stults Road and Ridge Road intersections of Route 535, police said.
According to police, the accident occurred when Anthony Voyles, 35, of Fair Haven, Mich., drove his 2005 Kenworth tractor-trailer into oncoming traffic while making a turn into the BASF building, police said. Police said Mr. Voyles was traveling north and crossed into the southbound lane.
Mr. Voyles was hit by John Baldwin, 51, of Lester, Pa., who was traveling south in his 1996 Freightliner tractor-trailer, police said.
The Monmouth Junction Fire Department had to remove Mr. Baldwin from his truck and he was transported by South Brunswick EMS to the University Medical Center at Princeton to be treated and released for cuts and abrasions to his head, hands and knees, said police. Police said his injuries were not life threatening.
A hospital spokesperson said Mr. Baldwin made a visit to the emergency room on Tuesday but was not admitted into the hospital.
Patrol Officer Ken Drost of the South Brunswick Police Traffic Safety Bureau investigated the accident and issued Mr. Voyles, who was not injured in the accident, a summons for improper turning.
