Ticket sales for the upcoming South Brunswick High School Project Graduation fund-raising event are picking up, though there are still more than 600 seats available.
The Jan. 29 event at the high school features Mr. Ray, a musician who plays educational rock music geared to children and their parents.
Event chairwoman LouAnne Wolf said Wednesday more than 300 tickets had been sold. Selling out the show would net $4,500 for Project Graduation.
Project Graduation is a night of drug- and alcohol-free activities that follows graduation. There will be laser tag, mini-golf and bumper boats. There also will be an airbrush tattoo artist and various giveaways.
The group hopes to raise between $30,000 and $35,000 for the event this year.
Ms. Wolf said word of the show has been spreading and Mr. Ray has decided to bring two characters with him to the show, most likely Kalien the Alien and Zibby the Zebra.
Ms. Wolf said she hopes the characters will further increase interest in the show and boost ticket sales.
Tickets are $5 in advance and available at the main offices in Brunswick Acres, Constable, Greenbrook and Indian Fields schools and in the Community Center on New Road.
Tickets will be available at the door for $7.
The show starts at 2 p.m. but the door opens at 1 p.m. where several vendors will have booths, including a table of Mr. Ray merchandise. There also will be face painting, jewelry books and arts and crafts on sale.
"We are getting a percentage of all sales that are going on there," Ms. Wolf said.
In addition to the Mr. Ray show, Red River BBQ on Georges Road is donating 5 percent of its sales on Sundays and Mondays and Chevy’s at the Mercer Mall in Lawrenceville will donate 20 percent of its sales Feb. 24 when customers mention Project Graduation.
Other fund-raisers include a Texas Hold’em tournament March 5 at the American Legion Post 401 and an Atlantic City trip March 13. Details of both are still being worked out.
PNC Bank on Georges Road is donating $10 for every new checking account opened between now and June 1.
