The township received an additional $100,000 in state aid to go along with $300,000 in state Department of Transportation grants to be used for sidewalks and drainage projects.
State Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein, a Democrat whose district includes South Brunswick, said Tuesday the $100,000 would go to sidewalk and drainage repairs throughout the township.
"The reason why these are so important is that these projects are not frivolous," Ms. Greenstein said. "If the state money was not given to the township then it would come from the local taxpayers."
Township Public Information Officer Ron Schmalz said the mayor and township are working on ideas on what to use the $100,000 municipal aid for, but the DOT grants have already been designated to projects.
The township received two grants in December from the DOT in December totaling $300,000.
A $200,000 DOT grant will be used to help reduce flooding on Ridge Road between Route 522 and Georges Road.
"It floods by five-corners on Ridge Road and that grant is for curbing and sewer work to alleviate that major problem that has been there for years," Mr. Schmalz said.
A $100,000 DOT grant will be used to make improvements to curbs and sidewalks on Kingston Lane, said Mr. Schmalz.
