HAMILTON A Washington Township woman was killed Jan. 13 in a two-car accident outside the Hamilton Marketplace shopping center, police said.
Beverly E. Zychowka, 45, suffered massive internal injuries in the accident, which took place at the corner of Route 130 and Crosswicks-Hamilton Square Road. Ms. Zychowka was the passenger in a Chevy Prism driven by her mother, Elizabeth Zychowka, who also lives in Washington, said Lt. Kurt Pizzullo of the Hamilton Police Department.
The accident occurred at 6:48 p.m. when Jackeline Santiago, 27, of Trenton made a U-turn in her Ford Explorer on Route 130, according to police. Elizabeth Zychowka was driving north in the right lane on Route 130 when the two cars collided.
"By the time the driver (Elizabeth Zychowka) saw what was taking place, it was unavoidable," Lt. Pizzullo said.
Beverly Zychowka was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m. Friday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton. Elizabeth Zychowka suffered broken bones, including her ankle, and a mouth injury, Lt. Pizzullo said. She was released Tuesday morning after treatment at Capital Health System at Fuld hospital.
Ms. Santiago and her 6-month-old daughter were sent to Mercer Medical Center in Trenton that evening and released after treatment for minor injuries, Lt. Pizzullo said.
Lt. Pizzullo and fellow Hamilton officer Victor Tobiaz, who is investigating the accident, responded to the scene. They received assistance from the Groveville Fire Company and the state Department of Transportation.
The northbound lane of Route 130 was closed until 10 p.m. that night, resulting in some backup along the road, Lt. Pizzullo said.
