Police chief recommends South Triangle parking limits

Congestion and safety concerns on portions of South Triangle Road have prompted Police Chief Robert Gazaway to request that stopping or standing be prohibited on portions of South Triangle Road.
In a memo to the Township Committee, Chief Gazaway said that a bus driver taking students to Triangle School expressed concern for the students’ safety to the the department’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
According to the memo, the driver said parents drop off their children on both sides of South Triangle Road, continually causing congestion and safety concerns, especially when school buses are departing.
Chief Gazaway added the school has a drop off area in the south parking lot, but it is not being "fully utilized."
Under current regulations, parking is banned on the west side of South Triangle Road, while parking on the east side is limited to 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on school days.
At Chief Gazaway’s behest, committee members Tuesday discussed the possibility of changing the parking rules on the east side to a "No Stopping or Standing" zone in order to deter parents from stopping on the road.
If adopted, the zone would be maintained on the west side from Triangle Road to Cooper Place and enacted on the east side from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on school days from Cooper Place to Triangle Road.
Committee members supported the request Tuesday, instructing Township Attorney Albert Cruz to draft an ordinance for introduction during the Feb. 8 meeting.
