Wainwright comes out rolling to NBC’s rescue

With its most consistent bowler Bill Moore out of the lineup, the Northern Burlington County Regional High School boys’ varsity bowling squad turned to junior varsity call up Adam Wainwright to lead it to a 4-0 home win over Moorestown last Friday.
"Bill Moore was sick so I had to bring up Adam Wainwright," explained NBC head coach Bruce Wandling.
"As far as I was concerned, he was the star of the match. The strides he has made since last year are amazing."
Wainwright rolled games of 185, 173 and 178 for a 536 series. And yet he was not NBC’s top bowler on the score sheet.
That honor went to ever-reliable Don Burgess, who posted games of 200, 162 and 192 in his 554 series.
"Don Burgess had a pretty good day," added Wandling.
Meanwhile Brandan Mauer (a 518 series) and Dan Purdy (512) also bowled well for the Greyhounds, who won the total pin count 2674-2413.
On the girls’ side, the Greyhounds beat Moorestown fairly soundly (2250-1914) despite the 3-1 final score.
"They kind of laid down in the first game except for my two freshmen, Melissa Rockhill (who had a 150) and Lindsey Webster (who had a 163 first game)," noted Wandling.
Rockhill would go on to roll games of 164 and 198 to compete a 512 series.
However, after a sub par first game, Nicole Urig posted games of 188 and 195 to go over 500 (501) for the day. Meanwhile, Shannon Wilkins, NBC’s other big star, rolled a 411 series.
NBC’s girls are now 10-2, but they are undefeated in the league (6-0). NBC’s boys are 7-3-2 with a 4-2 league mark.
Monday’s scheduled match versus Burlington Township was postponed because of inclement weather. No makeup date has been set as of yet. NBC is scheduled to host Delran on Monday. NBC is scheduled at Cinnaminson on Tuesday.
