MONROE A South Brunswick man was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license following an accident on Perrineville Road last week, police said.
Police said Bryon Keith, 41, of Route 1 was found unconscious in his 1996 Saab at 12:56 a.m. Jan. 16 after losing control of the car. Police said Mr. Keith was traveling south on Perrineville Road at a high rate of speed when his car left the road and hit a tree. The impact caused the car’s engine to break away, spin off across the road, and start a brush fire, police said.
Police said the officer who responded to the accident detected the odor of alcohol in the vehicle. The Monroe Township First Aid Squad transported Mr. Keith to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where a blood sample was taken.
A spokeswoman for the hospital said Mr. Keith was treated for minor injuries and released. Perrineville Road was closed for an hour as a result of the accident.
