Shoveling kids did prompt, excellent job
To the editor:
As a senior with his share (or more) of infirmities making snow shoveling a distant memory, I was pleased and delighted to have Andrew Bergman and his high school friends ring my doorbell and ask if I wanted to have my walks shoveled. He explained that his group was raising money for CompuKids, a nonprofit group that helps families who cannot afford them to buy a computer, printer and software.
The kids did a prompt and excellent job for a very reasonable price. Knowing of a friend whose driveway service did not show up, I also arranged to have them shovel their driveway, too.
It is wonderful to discover that there are kids around whose ideals and efforts are being directed to such good works. Their parents must be very proud of them.
Should any reader want to get in touch with Andrew the e-mail is [email protected] and the phone is (609) 577-3752.

Fiesta owes success to many supporters
To the editor:
On behalf of the board of trustees of the Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund, I would like to express our deep appreciation for the overwhelming response and support we received this past Friday, Jan. 21, at our Fiesta fund-raising event, coming together around our Latino neighbors, to celebrate their cultural contributions and heritage that so enrich our community.
At the risk of forgetting some names, we acknowledge and thank the personal and bountiful in-kind contributions of the following establishments and their magnificent staffs: Main Street Cafe, The Ferry House, Cox’s Catering, Valentino’s, Lupita Groceries, Taste of Mexico, Nassau Street Seafood, Panera’s, Olive’s, Wegmans, Whole Foods, Whole Earth, McCaffrey’s, Nassau Bagle Co., Villa Maria Restaurant and Abel Bagel.
Our performers were amazing: Pasion Latina from Princeton High School, Ballet Folklorico from Princeton University, Danza Española from The Arts Council, La Guelaguetza Mexican dancers of New Brunswick and Isabel "Chiqui" Garcia and Rafael Benitez, whose contagious enthusiasm got everyone up and dancing.
We are extremely grateful to Teri Lands, Joy Allen, Cordelia Hill and the staff of Main Street, Judith Weiss, Judy Lowry, Tarry Truitt, Elizabeth Peters, Denise Davila, Lillian Arriola and family, Maria Shamyer, Louise Sandburg, Sara Holloway, Grecia Rivera, Sara Cortes and Jossie Cortes. Among our own trustees, we owe special thanks to Ann Yasuhara, Claudia Espinoza, Estuardo Arriola, Maria Moreno and Alma Concepcion.
We are particularly grateful to Trinity Church for hosting the event. Last but not least, we thank all those who came in spite of the frigid temperature to open their hearts and their pockets to the crisis that afflicts so many in the Latino community in their struggle to become a part of our society.
