Streets to benefit from $70,000 grant to borough

Princeton Borough received a $70,000 grant on Thursday that will help cover some costs of the $14.8 million downtown redevelopment project at Spring and Tulane streets.
The money will offset costs accrued by the borough for environmental studies and remediation at the Tulane Street metered parking lot, which will be redeveloped with a five-story mixed-use building, Borough Administrator Robert Bruschi said.
Borough Engineer Carl Peters applied for the grant on behalf of the borough, Mr. Bruschi said.
The downtown development, a partnership between the borough and developer Nassau HKT Associates, also includes a 500-space parking garage, five-story mixed-use building and a plaza, all located on a former municipal parking lot off Spring Street.
The money awarded to the borough was part of $2.1 million in New Jersey Department of Transportation grants for local transportation improvement projects throughout the state.
