A replacement for former school board member Larry Reccoppa is expected to be chosen today (Thursday) at a special meeting of the Lawrence Township Board of Education.
At the 7:30 p.m. meeting, which is being held in the Lawrence High School library, the school board members will choose from among nine candidates who are seeking to fill out the remainder of Mr. Reccoppa’s three-year term, which ends in April.
The newly appointed school board member will be sworn into office at the school board’s regular meeting Wednesday in the LHS library.
Mr. Reccoppa resigned last month, citing increasingly demanding professional commitments. He is a vice president in the Institutional Trust Services Group at JP Morgan Chase in Manhattan. He was nearing the end of his second term on the board when he resigned.
The candidates who are seeking to replace Mr. Reccoppa include Veronique Cavaillier of Fountayne Lane, Bernadette Gur of Nathan Hale Avenue, and former school board member Geraldine Hutner of Woodlane Road.
Also, Alison Joyce of Gallo Court, Ann Lewin of Glenn Avenue, who ran unsuccessfully for the school board last year, and Kari McGann of Lannigan Drive.
And William Nathan of Dix Lane, Anthony Nini of Province Line Road and Brett Smith of Lawrence Road also have expressed interest in serving on the school board.
This is the second time in less than two months that the school board has had to fill a vacancy. Janardhan Manickam resigned in December. Carole Drury of Karena Lane was chosen to fill out Dr. Manickam’s term, which also ends in April.
