Board of Education hopefuls take note: Information about campaigning for office is now available in the Princeton Regional, West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional and Montgomery board of education offices.
To qualify for the post, candidates must be able to read and write, and must be registered to vote in the district in which they intend to run. Board members are also required to hold citizenship and one year’s residency in the school district, be qualified as a voter, not hold office as mayor or a member of the municipal governing body, and have no interest in, contract with or claim against the board.
To be included on the ballot, a candidate must obtain the signatures of at least 10 qualified voters living within the district, one of whom may be the candidate, and file a petition at least 50 days prior to the election. In addition, New Jersey law requires all first-year school board members to attend a New Jersey School Boards Association training program.
The deadline to file nominating petitions is 4 p.m. Feb. 28. Elections for the three-year posts are scheduled for April 19.
Candidates may pick up application forms and petitions at the following locations:
Princeton Regional Board of Education: 25 Valley Road;
West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional Board of Education: 505 Village Road West, West Windsor;
Montgomery Board of Education: 1014 Route 601.
