Dorothy S. Dorfman



   EWING — Dorothy S. Dorfman, 89, died Monday at the Greenwood House.
   Born in New York City, Mrs. Dorfman was a former resident of East Windsor before moving to the area eight years ago.
   Wife of the late Murray I. Dorfman, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Susan Dorfman of Bethany, Conn.; and two granddaughters, Jessica and Alison Dorfman.
   Funeral services were held Wednesday at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing Township.
   Burial followed at Fountain Lawn Memorial Park, Ewing.
   The family requests memorial contributions be offered to Greenwood House, 53 Walter St., Ewing Township.


Charles R. Happ



   MANSFIELD — Charles R. Happ, 79, died Jan. 27 in Compassionate Care at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton.
   Born in Hamilton, Mr. Happ resided in Mansfield and Hamilton. He retired in 1982, from Hamilton Township, as a principal civil engineer.
   Mr. Happ was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was captured by the Germans, along with many other American soldiers, during the Battle of the Bulge. He participated in many of the battles in the European Theatre.
   Mr. Happ played semi-pro football for the Trenton Eagles, was a longtime member of the United States Trotting Association and was a former owner, trainer and driver of standard bred horses.
   Son of the late Lena Clark and Charles Happ, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth D’Agostino Happ; a sister, Jean Myer of East Windsor; and a brother, Louis A. Happ of Mercerville.
   Funeral services were held Monday from the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square.
   A Funeral Mass was celebrated from St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church, 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square.
   Entombment followed in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Madonna Mausoleum, Hamilton.

John D. Harkness



   MONROE — John D. Harkness, 87, of Monroe died Jan. 20 in the University Medical Center at Princeton.
   Born in Upper Darby, Pa., Mr. Harkness resided in Lansdale, Pa., for more than 50 years prior to moving to New Jersey in 1994.
   Mr. Harkness was a retired vice president of finance for Keystone Brass and Rubber Company in Hatboro, Pa.
   Husband of the late Grace A. Harkness, he is survived by his daughter, Dr. Suzanne C. Harkness of Columbus; one brother, six sisters and their families.
   Funeral service was Saturday, Jan. 22 from the A.S. Cole Funeral Home, 22 North Main Street, Cranbury. The Rev. James R. Egan, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, officiated.
   Interment will follow in Little Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Telford, Pa.
   There will be no calling hours.
Katherine Dalton Hitch



   HIGHTSTOWN — Katherine Dalton Hitch, 98, of Hightstown, formerly of Westport, Conn., died Jan. 22 peacefully at Meadow Lakes retirement community.
   The second of eight children, she was born in Milton, Mass., to Susan Howe Dalton and Philip Spaulding Dalton.
   Mrs. Hitch was predeceased by her three brothers and four sisters and her husband of 58 years, Joseph Delano Hitch Jr., former CEO of the Dorr-Oliver Company of Stamford, Conn.
   She was in the Class of 1924 at Milton Academy. She and her husband lived in Japan for eight years before World War II. They moved to Westport, Conn., in 1938.
   Her great loves, after husband and five children, were the American Red Cross and "antiquing."
   Thanks for her life is asked by her five children: Joseph Delano Hitch III (married to Jean Santoro Hitch) of The Villages, Fla.; Henry Higginson Hitch (Mary Ellan Combs Hitch) of New Canaan, Conn.; Joan Van Nostrand Powell (David G. Powell) of Bernardsville; Katherine Dalton Grant of Houston; Philip Delano Hitch (Marcia Gilley Hitch) of Allston, Mass.
   Mrs. Hitch also is survived by her 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and her devoted caregiver, Rachel R. Hymen-White.
   A memorial service will be held at a later date.
   Arrangements are by Glackin/Saul Funeral Home, 136 Morrison Avenue, Hightstown.
Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Reeves Klank
   MONROE — Elizabeth "Betty" Reeves Klank, 87, died Saturday in University Medical Center at Princeton.
   Born in Hightstown, Mrs. Klank was a lifelong Hightstown resident.
   Mrs. Klank attended Smith College, was a graduate of Pratt Institute School of Fine Arts, Class of 1938 and received a bachelor’s degree in art education from Kean College, Class of 1970.
   A former fashion illustrator, she retired as a teacher of art and art history from Hightstown High School in 1982 and was a past president of the Hightstown Women’s Club.
   Mrs. Klank was predeceased by her parents, J. Walter and Elizabeth Heindel Reeves, her husband, Harold E. Hanley; her daughter, Morgan; her son, Peter; and her granddaughter, Alix. She is survived by her husband, W. Howard Klank and a son, Peter.
   A Memorial service will be held at a later date.
   Cremation services are private.
   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the donation of choice.
   Arrangements are under the direction of Glackin/Saul Funeral Home, 136 Morrison Ave., Hightstown.
Henry Rudolph May



   HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. — Henry Rudolph May, 79, of Heber Springs, Ark., died at his home on Jan. 27.
   Born in Perrineville on April 7, 1925, he was the son of the late Rudolph Peter and Julia (Matheysen) May.
   A former resident of Hightstown, Mr. May had lived in Heber Springs for 19 years. He was a furniture storeowner and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church.
   Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Julia (Bollengier) May of Heber Springs, Ark.; one nephew, Thomas Byrne of Heber Springs, Ark.; and other nephews and nieces. Mr. May is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
   A memorial service will be held Tuesday in the First Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in the East Windsor Cemetery at Hightstown.
   Memorials may be made to the Human Society or First Presbyterian Church.
   Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home Inc., Heber Springs, Ark.


Ida Porrini



   CRANBURY — Ida Porrini, 91, of Cranbury, died peacefully with her family by her side on Jan. 16 at The Elms of Cranbury.
   Mrs. Porrini was born in New York City and was a resident of Floral Park, L.I., N.Y. for many years.
   Mrs. Porrini is the wife of the late Dominick Porrini and sister of the late John Malaspina; she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Phil Baciuska of East Windsor; her son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Kally Porrini; her brother-in-law, Paul Porrini; and her four grandchildren, Nick, A.J., Daniel and Stephanie and numerous nieces and nephews.
   Funeral service was held on Jan. 19 from A.S. Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Cranbury. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 251 Franklin St., Hightstown. Cremation followed at the Ewing Crematory, Ewing Township.
   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Elm of Cranbury, 61 Maplewood Ave., Cranbury.
   The family would like to extend their thanks to The Elms of Cranbury for the extraordinary care they provided for Ida, during her stay and especially during her last days.


Martha Jean Reid



   HIGHTSTOWN — Martha Jean Reid, 74, of Castle Senior Living at Forsgate, died Jan. 28 at home.
   Born in Cranbury, she was a resident of Hightstown for many years.
   Ms. Reid was a graduate of Rider College, Class of 1949, from the Division of Secretarial Science. She was a retired secretary from Carter-Wallace in Cranbury.
   She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hightstown for more than 40 years. She was an honorary member of the Autumn Club of Hightstown, and enjoyed dancing at the Hightstown Country Club. She had also been employed with National Lead, East Windsor, for 10 years and with Curtis-Wright in Princeton.
   Daughter of the late Frank L. and Dora Reid, she is survived by her sister, Minnie Hallock of Bomansville, Pa.; her brother and sister-in-law, Frank L. and Emily Reid of Hightstown; her niece and husband, Kathleen and Robert Margerum of Columbia, Pa.; her nephew and his wife, Gary and Mary Hallock of Tampa, Fla.; her great nieces and nephews, Christopher and Ashleigh Hallock; her great-great nieces, Hannah and Lilly Grace Hallock.
   Funeral services were held Monday at Glackin/Saul Funeral Home, 136 Morrison Avenue, Hightstown.
   Interment followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hightstown.


Dona C. Rhodes



   PLUMSTED — Dona C. Rhodes, 71, died Jan. 28 at Virtua Memorial Hospital of Burlington County, Mount Holly.
   Born in Limestone, Maine, she was a longtime of resident of New Egypt.
   She was a retired factory worker at North American Phillips in Hightstown.
   Sister of the late David and Manny Pelkey, she is survived by two sons, Wayne Rhodes of Willingboro and Robert Rhodes of New Egypt; two daughters, Patricia Rhodes and Sandra Rhodes, both of New Egypt; three brothers, Roger Pelkey of Caribou, Maine and Patrick and Jimmy Pelkey, both of Limestone, Maine; two sisters, Norma Gunthrie of Limestone, Maine and Marylou Conklin of Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Shawn Rhodes, Jennifer Dootson, Joshua Hogan and Eric Hewlitt; and a great-granddaughter, Lydia Rhodes.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today, Friday, from the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main St., New Egypt, with the Rev. Steve Brown, officiating.
   Interment will be in Jacobstown Cemetery, Jacobstown.

Ann Rosenberg



   EAST WINDSOR — Ann Rosenberg, 63, died Saturday at Robert Wood John University Medical Center, Hamilton.
   Mrs. Rosenberg was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Long Island and Queens, N.Y., until moving to East Windsor 30 years ago.
   She was a self-employed executive recruiter in the job placement market.
   Mrs. Rosenberg was a member of Congregation Beth Chaim, in West Windsor.
   She is survived by her husband, Alan Rosenberg; a daughter, Kim Bridgman and her husband, Jeff, of Harrisburg, Pa.; three sons, Scott Rosenberg and his wife, Corin, of Lawrence, Marc Hochman of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Greg Hochman of East Windsor; a brother, Leonard Stecker of East Windsor; and three grandchildren, Lea Rosenberg, Carly Rosenberg and Noel Bridgman.
   Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Sanctuary of Abraham and Sarah Mausoleum Chapel at Cedar Park Cemetery, Forest Avenue, Paramus.
   Memorial donations in memory of Ann Rosenberg may be made to the American Cancer Society or Rena Rowan Breast Cancer Center, at University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
   Arrangements are by Louis Suburban Chapel, 13-01 Broadway, Fair Lawn.
Stephen B. Shimko



   COLUMBUS — Stephen B. Shimko, 66, of The Homestead, Columbus, died Sunday at the University Medical Center at Princeton.
   Born in Manhattan, N.Y., Mr. Shimko was formerly of Hightstown-East Windsor area for many years. He resided at The Homestead in Columbus for the past nine years.
   Mr. Shimko was a member of the Local Union 1005 and was employed by Zack Painting Company in Fords for 35 years.
   He was a member of the Hightstown Elks Lodge 1955. He played softball on the Mansfield Softball Team in Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards, playing pool, taking daily walks, and his favorite place was Atlantic City.
   Son of the late John and Jenny Shimko, he is survived by his loving wife, Alta Shimko; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen B. and June Shimko Jr. of Ewing; daughter and son-in-law, Alta Jean and Steven Mihalik of Mercerville; five grandchildren, Tiffany Shimko, Steven Mihalik Jr., Kristina Mihalik, Stephen B. Shimko III, and Taylor Shimko; and one great-grandchild, Christian Shimko.
   Funeral services were held Thursday at the Glackin/Saul Funeral Home, 136 Morrison Ave., Hightstown.
   Interment followed in Princeton Memorial Park, Robbinsville.
   Contributions may be made in Mr. Shimko’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 3076 Princeton Pike, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648-2304.


Jessie F. Taylor



   EAST WINDSOR — Jessie F. Taylor, 63, of East Windsor, died suddenly on Monday at her residence.
   Born in Fulton, N.Y., she was a lifelong area resident.
   Mrs. Taylor retired in 2004 from the Windsor Country Diner after many years of service.
   Mrs. Taylor was an avid bowler who bowled on Wednesday night for the mixed league at Brunswick Lanes in Hightstown. She was president of Friday Night Scramblers.
   Daughter of the late Victor and Mary Fredenberg; she is survived by her husband of 36 years, Ronald Taylor; her dear friends, John and Carol Twarkusky and their daughter, Kellie Celentano; her goddaughter, Kimberly Twarkusky; and several nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services will be held today, Friday, at 7 p.m. from the Glackin/Saul Funeral Home, 136 Morrison Avenue, Hightstown.
   Cremation will be private and at the convenience of the family.
   Relatives and friends may call on Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Vivian E. Volk



   WASHINGTON — Vivian E. Volk, 74, died Jan. 28 at her home in nearby Washington Township.
   Born in Trenton, she was a lifelong area resident.
   Mrs. Volk was a member of the Hamilton High Alumni Association, Class of 1949.
   She loved sewing, arts and crafts and roller skating with her husband.
   Daughter of the late Walter G. and Vivian Ertle Perrine, she is survived by her husband of 53 years, John Volk; a son, Michael P. Volk of Hightstown; one uncle, Ralph Ertle of Frederick, Md.; a niece, Susan Perez of Trenton; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Martinez of Browns Mills.
   Funeral services were held Tuesday at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 1863 Hamilton Ave., Hamilton.
   Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
   Arrangements are by the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, Hamilton.


Dorothy ‘Mac’ L. Worringer



   MERCERVILLE — Dorothy "Mac" L. Worringer, 80, died Jan. 25 at her home.
   Born in Beloit, Wis., Mrs. Worringer was a lifelong area resident, moving to their home in Mercerville in 1951.
   She was a graduate of Milwaukee County College where she received her Registered Nursing degree. She retired in 1983 from Trenton State Prison as a registered nurse.
   Mrs. Worringer was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hamilton Square and the Sarah Rogers Circle at the church.
   Predeceased by her parents and her brother, Richard, she is survived by her husband of 58 years, Wilfred J. Worringer; two daughters, Wendy Worringer and her husband, Frank Marchetti, of Hopewell and Cathy Reilly of Ewing and son-in-law John Reilly; two sons, Michael Worringer and his wife, Suzanne, of Millstone and Steven Worringer and his wife, Jennifer, of East Windsor; five grandchildren, John and Kevin Reilly, Jennifer and Steven Worringer and Chelsea Marchetti; and several nieces and nephews.
   A Memorial Service will be held Jan. 28 from the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, with the Rev. Susan Reisinger of First Presbyterian Church of Hamilton Square officiating.
   Family and friends may pay their respects from 4 until 5 p.m. Friday at the Colonial Home.
