Appearances by the Phillie Phanatic, Clash of the Trenton Titans hockey team and a benefit basketball game between teams from the Hopewell Township and Ewing Township police departments are among events planned for a big tsunami relief fund-raiser at the Pennington-Ewing Athletic Club (PEAC) on Saturday.
The fund-raiser will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at PEAC’s facility at 1400 Lower Ferry Road in Ewing Township, just south of I-95. PEAC is just south of the border of Hopewell Township, in which Lower Ferry Road is Reed Road.
The police benefit basketball game is slated for 10 a.m. on PEAC’s regulation-size court.
The event will be open to the public as well as PEAC members. Interested persons can sign up for activities at the club’s front desk now.
"We hope a lot of people from all over the area will come," PEAC owner Michael Briehler said. "They can work out and make a donation for a good cause and have some fun."
A Red Cross specialist will be on hand to answer questions about the fund-raiser and relief effort to cope with the aftermath of the tsunami disaster.
At the fund-raiser, there will be an aerobithon, a spin-a-thon on exercise cycles, a ballet for strength class at noon, taught by Carrie Ellmore-Tallitsch of the Martha Graham Dance Company, and other activities.
