Although the Northern Burlington County Regional High School boys’ varsity bowling team was good this year (8-6-1), it did not dominate as it has in previous years.
Yet match after match one bowler stood out as a pillar of excellence Bill Moore.
This past Saturday at the NJSIAA Sectionals, Moore made a serious bid to qualify for the state finals. His extraordinary effort did not go unnoticed by his head coach Bruce Wandling.
"Bill Moore did a terrific job. He bowled a 201, 223 and 224 for a 648 series. That was just a few pins short of going a little further as an individual," said Wandling, whose team posted a 936 score in its third game.
Donny Burgess (214) and Dan Purdy (204) each had a strong individual game in the tournament as well.
The NBC girls’ team had been strong all year long. In fact, it crushed Burlington Township, 4-0, last Wednesday. While taking the overall pin count, 2322-2104.
"Burlington Township was not that strong, but obviously I was pleased that they want to remain undefeated (10-0) in the league," said Wandling.
As usual, NBC’s big guns, Nicole Urig and Shannon Wilkins, had their games working. Urig rolled a stellar 547 series with a 190 high game while Wilkins recorded a 505 series with a 183 high game. NBC finished its regular season 15-3.
On the boys’ side, Burlington Township beat NBC 4-0.
Purdy had high series (563) and high game (218) for NBC. Burgess also bowled well with a 548 series, which featured a high game of 192.
