MATAWAN — After roughly eight months without a borough administrator, the Borough Council appointed a part-time interim to the position.
The board voted 4-0 on Feb. 15 to appoint Brian J. Valentino to the position for the next six months. Councilwomen Sharon Roselli and Debbie Buragina were absent.
Valentino thanked Mayor Beatrice Duffy and the council for the appointment, and said he is looking forward to working with them and the borough residents for the next six months.
“I’m happy to be of service to the good people of Matawan,” he said.
Valentino fills the position left vacant by Bruce Hilling, who was let go in June of last year after a little over a year of service.
Valentino is currently the president of Patriot Consulting Group, Monmouth Beach. He has acted as administrator in South River, Shrewsbury and Pemberton.
He has a master’s degree in public administration from American University, Washington, D.C. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Marymount University, Va.
“From what I know of him and his résumé, I think he will be an asset to the borough,” Mayor Duffy said.
The mayor said that she is impressed with Valentino and would like to hire him full time once the six-month interim is complete.
“The council is impressed with him also, and we would like to hire him permanently,” she said. “We would like to hire him permanently, but that would be his decision.”
