Symphony to offer concert

MANALAPAN — The Manalapan Battleground Symphony Orchestra will present its annual family concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26 in the auditorium of the Manalapan-Englishtown Middle School, 155 Millhurst Road.

The orchestra is sponsored by the Manalapan Parks and Recreation Department and is under the direction of Chiu-Tze Lin, who is now in her fifth season with the orchestra.

The concert will feature the orchestra’s recently appointed concertmaster, Dezheng Ping, performing the Bruch Violin Concerto in G minor.

Ping is a well-known violinist and violin teacher in New Jersey. He has given recitals and performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras around the world. He has performed in Japan, Malaysia, Macao, Spain, Switzerland, England, France and Germany.

The violinist’s performances of the Mozart Strings Quartet was broadcast on the PBS television network.

“Reviewers have commented that Mr. Ping’s playing is extremely vibrant,” Lin said. “Mr. Ping is a fabulous violinist who assumed the concertmaster position for the orchestra about nine months ago. He has performed worldwide and he has appeared on national television.”

Lin said the violinist has exceptional talent and has always displayed artistry and virtuosity in his performances.

“It is great that we have brought him right here to Monmouth County. It will be a real treat for people to hear him playing pyrotechnical pieces on the violin,” said the conductor.

Other selections in the program will be Rossini’s William Tell Overture and the overture from Rossini’s “Barber of Seville.”

Tickets for the concert are $8 in advance and $10 are at the door. Advanced tickets may be obtained by calling (732) 446-2458 or (732) 687-8527.
