South Brunswick Commission on Women extends thanks

On behalf of the South Brunswick Commission on Women and the commission’s domestic violence task force, I would like to thank the community for their ongoing support of our initiatives. I would like to take a moment to specifically thank many of the organizations and individuals that have sponsored our activities.

On Jan. 17, the domestic violence task force held a dinner at Theo’s to raise money for our activities, such the Enough Is Enough Humanity March that will be held April 17 to raise awareness of the issues and challenges connected to spousal and child abuse. Theo’s donated the food and the restaurant for this event. We cannot thank him enough, and certainly this event would not have been the success it was without the coordination and participation of Arthur and Debbie Roedel; their help is certainly appreciated. We are grateful to all those who participated.

On Feb. 10, the commission held its first health and beauty workshop and auction to raise money for its scholarship fund. First, we have to thank former South Brunswick resident and current model Karen Alexander for her generous $2,000 pledge to the scholarship fund. Scholarship winners will be announced at the women’s conference held at South Brunswick High School March 5.

The health and beauty workshop was a tremendous success, thanks to our speakers — Dr. Monica Bais of Trinity Healthcare, Gina Divenzenco from Gold’s Gym, Katherine Doyle of Yogasana Yoga Studios, and Stephanie of UFO Spa and Salon, and thanks to our sponsors — Medicia Corp., Pierre’s Restaurant and Deli, Chutney Mary Indian Restaurant, UFO Spa and Salon, Gold’s Gym, Yogasana Yoga Studios, Russ Berrie for Home, L’Oreal, Esteé Lauder Clinique products, Indu Khanna-Bahala and Splash Hair Studios.

We especially want to thank Medicia again for allowing us to use its facility for the workshop and for the generous gift bags they donated — they have continually been supportive of community events. We also want to recognize all the wonderful workshop participants that helped to make the program a success. Hopefully I have not forgotten anybody, but if I have, forgive me and know you are appreciated. Thank you all so much again — it is wonderful to be part of a community that cares.
