Willie Kendrick Jr.
Willie B. "Justice" Kendrick Jr., 55, died Sunday, Feb. 2, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born on June 22, 1950, in New Brunswick, Mr. Kendrick, also lovingly known as Justice, was raised in Jamesburg. He attended the Jamesburg Public School system. In 1969, he enlisted in the Army and received an honorable discharge in 1971.
He then attended the New York School of Cosmetology and the Rainbow Academy of Beauty in Perth Amboy, where he received a license in cosmetology and mastered the skills of barbering. Mr. Kendrick also graduated from Rutgers School of Social Work and became employed with the Middlesex County Economic Opportunities Cooperation, where he served as a social worker for three years at its HRCA Jamesburg office. He later relocated to the New Brunswick area, where he became a self-employed barber and raised his children until the time of his death.
Mr. Kendrick was predeceased by his parents, Willie B. Sr. and Mattie Mae Kendrick; his grandmother, Minnie L. Hightower; two daughters, Aina Femi Kendrick and Nylyana Marie Robinson, and a grandson, Prince Isaiah Robinson.
He is survived by his sisters, Lillian Woolfolk, Ann Marie Pettigrew and Lorraine Aziza Kendrick; his brother, Lawrence Life Kendrick; a brother-in-law, Tyrone Pettigrew; aunts, Lucille Wilson, Christine Johnson and Annie Kate Jackson; uncles, John Hyman and Tommy Linder; 27 children; 29 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral was held Saturday, March 5, at Mount Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, Jamesburg. Burial was held in Fernwood Cemetery, Jamesburg.
