Danish Archives North East (DANE) is sponsoring a celebration in honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Hans Christian Andersen, the famous fairy-tale writer — who was also an artist, dancer, poet, playwright and professor — at 2 p.m. April 3 at the Danish home, 855 New Durham Road, Edison. The program will include readings of excerpts from Andersen’s most well-known stories, as well as clips from others that will be shown on a video screen. Children of the DK Mom NY (Danish mothers) club — a network of Danish moms living in the tristate area — will sing Danish folk songs. Some of Andersen’s many paper cutouts will also be on display. In addition, those attending the tribute will be able to visit the current DANE exhibit, “Storefronts and Smokestacks,” in the archive area, which depicts in photos and text the story of early 20th century Perth Amboy. For more information, call the DANE office at (732) 287-6445 or 1-866-855-3263.
