Radio station WRAT-FM, 95.9, “The Rat” will honor 26 exceptional children from Monmouth and Ocean counties as “Kids Who Rock.”
Now through May 13, the station, which is based in Lake Como, will be soliciting nominees — children between the ages of 8-16 who have done something remarkable in their community, took action for a cause they believe in or changed someone’s life for the better.
Two nominees will be chosen each week and will have their stories read live on the air every Friday by Rockyn Robyn Lane. These children will then be invited to a dinner in their honor where they will receive an award and a gift certificate to the Monmouth Mall, Eatontown.
Nominations can be submitted several different ways: via mail to Kids Who Rock 1731 Main Street, Lake Como 07719; via fax, (732) 681-5995; or via The Rat Web site, www.wrat.com. Nominations can also be dropped off at the customer service desk at the Monmouth Mall.
Station Manager Mike Kazala said, “Throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties there are kids who make a difference every day. Maybe they volunteer their time at a senior center; maybe they led a recycling drive or helped a charity in their town. The intention of our ‘Kids Who Rock’ program is to give theses kids some recognition for what they do. It is our hope that this program might also inspire other kids to help in their own way to make Monmouth and Ocean counties better places to live.”
Helping to support the event is High Point Auto Insurance and the Monmouth Mall.
