Chief extends thanks to community

(Open letter to all members of the South Brunswick community)

I would like to take one last opportunity as your chief of police to thank all those who have made the past 27 years possible. When I became a police officer in 1978, I could never have imagined the road ahead. I was blessed to have been surrounded by a supportive community, a tremendous staff and great officers.

In policing, you become involved in highs and lows of everyday life. Through each experience I have met amazing people from all walks of life. To the officers who sacrifice tirelessly to solve crimes and protect the community — I say thank you. To the firefighters who risk their own safety — I say thank you. To the emergency medical personnel who answer the call for help at all hours — I say thank you. To the community members who stop to assist, or call in that important tip, or help make our community the great place it is — I say thank you.

The combined efforts of all these individuals have resulted in the South Brunswick Police Department being viewed as one of the premier police departments in the state. During the past 27 years I am sure there have been times where I did not get the chance to say what I want to today — I am grateful for all those who have assisted me, our department and our community through the years.

I will always value the friendships and partnerships that have been formed throughout my career. I thank you for the opportunity to serve as chief of police of this great department and community.

Chief Michael D. Paquette
