Fire sears Kendall Park home

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A two-alarm fire displaced a family of four last week.

The fire occurred last Thursday to a home on Fordam Road in the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick.

According to South Brunswick Detective James Ryan, the family’s 12-year-old son was home alone at the time when he smelled smoke. The boy left the home and went to a neighbor to call 911.

The fire apparently started in the home’s utility room where furnace and hot water heater were located.

The Monmouth Junction and Kendall Park fire departments responded to the blaze, which was brought under control within 15 minutes, Ryan said.

While no injuries were reported, the fire did cause extensive smoke damage and left the home uninhabitable. The family was forced to remain at a local hotel.

The South Brunswick Fire Safety Board has not yet determined the cause of the fire, according to Ryan.
