OLD BRIDGE — An armed robbery the night of March 14 in a CVS parking lot left one woman shaken and police looking for a suspect armed with a knife.

An employee at the CVS store on Morristown Road called police at about 6:35 p.m. and told them that a woman had just been robbed in the outside lot. The alleged victim stayed behind in the store to talk to responding police officers, according to reports.

The woman told police that she had been shopping at CVS that night and was getting into her car when she was robbed.

She said she put her things in the car and sat in the driver’s seat when a man appeared, pulled the car door open and told her to give him her wallet. The man then reached into the car to take her purse.

He had a 4-inch knife, the woman told police.

The man succeeded in taking her purse and got into what the victim described as a dark-colored Jeep, parked in the spot next to her car on the driver’s side.

Though she said she was still scared and shaken, the woman attempted to open the door of the Jeep as it drove away onto Matawan Road.

About $100 in cash was in the purse, as well as credit cards and other miscellaneous items, according to the police report.

A VHS tape was seized from the CVS store security cameras and placed into evidence by the police.

The woman told police that the man who pulled the knife was white or possibly Hispanic, approximately 5 feet 5 inches in height, and very thin. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, according to the police report, and looked young, possibly in his early 20s. The suspect spoke with an accent or a speech impediment, according to the description.

Anyone with any information regarding the robbery is urged to call Old Bridge Police Detective Mike Blahota at (732) 721-5600, ext. 3221.
