The North Brunswick boys U10 team beat East Brunswick, 31-28, for the title at the second annual Mayor’s Cup tournament Feb. 20 at the Linwood Middle School. On March 21, the team received a proclamation for their outstanding performance by North Brunswick Mayor Francis M. Womack. The coach of the team is Neil Brannen, and the players are Anish Baweja, Christopher Chedid, Jordan Gonzalez, Ricardo Hinds, Quadir Hoagland, Armani Hutson, Nicholas Lupo, Kishan Patel, Daryl Smith and Jarrett Vinson.
The North Brunswick Township High School honored the accomplishments of alumni Dave Salva on Feb. 4 with the unveiling of a banner replicating Salva’s retired jersey (No. 32) before the North vs. New Brunswick varsity basketball game.
Salva, class of 1980, was a four-year varsity player who still holds the record for total points scored (1,727) and most points scored in a game (41). He was named All-County first team as a sophomore, junior and senior. He was also named to various All-State teams and was an honorable mention on the McDonald’s All-American Team his senior year. Dave played for Rutgers following his graduation from NBTHS. He now resides in Monroe with his wife, Yvette, and 14-month-old daughter, Mary Rose.
