The Monmouth County Historical Association has scheduled three special events.
An open house at Covenhoven House, 150 W. Main St., Freehold, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. April 10. The event will feature special guest “Molly Pitcher,” who will give a one-hour presentation on her heroic actions at the Battle of Monmouth, beginning at 2 p.m. Molly will be portrayed by Stacy Roth of History on the Hoof. There will also be open-hearth cooking demonstrations, gingerbread and cornbread, and guided tours of the house, which was built in 1752. Admission is free, and parking will be available at Grace Lutheran Church at the corner of West Main Street and Park Avenue.
“Wool Days” will be held from noon to 3 p.m. April 23 and 24 at the association’s Holmes-Hendrickson House, which is adjacent to the Monmouth County Park System’s Longstreet Farm, Holmdel. Visitors to the house will be able to try their hand at spinning and carding wool, then tour the 1754 house. Hay rides will be available to transport visitors from Longstreet Farm to the house, weather permitting.
A Colonial Harvest Dinner will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 16 at Covenhoven House. The event will feature an elegant dinner inspired by Colonial fare, prepared by Metropolitan Cafe, along with tavern music performed by Tom and Marianne Tucker. Tickets are $100 per person, a portion of which is tax deductible. Proceeds will help support preservation projects at the MCHA’s historic properties. The association’s main museum is located at 70 Court St., Freehold.
