Lakewood JROTC places fourth in exhibition drill

  • The Lakewood High School JROTC Piner Battalion Drill Team placed fourth in an exhibition drill at the 2005 U.S. Army Cadet Command Eastern Region Drill Championship held March 19 in Landover, Md.
  • The Special Colors Unit participated in the closing ceremony by presenting the flag of the United States in each major armed conflict the United States has been involved in, starting with Revolutionary War and ending with the present-day conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Each cadet wears a uniform authentic to the time period represented and carries a corresponding flag with the correct number of stars and stripes. This is done to honor all U.S. veterans – both past and present. The Special Colors Unit is the only unit of its kind in New Jersey and on the East Coast.

The next competition for the Piner Battalion Drill Team will be held April 9 at Fresh Meadows, New York. They will then compete at the National Drill Competition at Daytona Beach, Fla., at the end of April.
