Winery to host event for juvenile diabetes

  • UPPER FREEHOLD — Building on the success of last spring’s wine-tasting reception, the Cream Ridge Winery in Cream Ridge will present “Concerts That Cure,” an evening of music and wine-tasting in the vineyard to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Last year’s event raised more than $3,300 for diabetes research, according to a press release.
  • This year’s event, which will feature the band Fallen From Grace, will take place May 14 from 6:30-10 p.m.

Tickets cost $40 and are completely tax-deductible. The event includes gourmet food, a sampling of 15 wines, a tour of the winery and a talk by Tom Amabile, who will share some of his winemaking expertise gained during his 17 years since founding the winery.

Tom, Dan and Karen Amabile will once again be hosting the event in the hope that Dan and Karen’s 5-year-old son, Jack, who has type 1 diabetes, will someday live insulin-free.

Space is limited to 300 guests. Last year was a sellout, so tickets should be purchased early. For tickets and details, call (609) 259-9797 or visit www.creamridgewinery.com. The winery is on Route 539, 3 miles outside of Allentown.

JDRF, the leading charitable funder and advocate of juvenile (type 1) diabetes research worldwide, was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with juvenile diabetes — a disease which strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin-dependent for life and carries the constant threat of devastating complications.
