NORTH BRUNSWICK — The Police Department presented two issues concerning equipment purchases at Monday’s Township Council meeting.
Lt. Reinson, speaking on behalf of Police Director Kenneth McCormick, said a Homeland Security Grant was received for $39,000.
“The money will be divided between the police department, the first aid squad and the fire department. It depends on what each organization needs,” Reinson said.
The police department will buy a van equipped as an offsite command center away from headquarters. The first aid squad is requesting a trailer to set up HAZMAT; however, it will be multifunctional. The fire department is asking for a radiation detector.
Reinson also asked for the approval of new generators at five sites around the township.
“The key site is the Department of Public Works. It is an important site for all organizations. It fuels the police, the first aid and the fire squads,” Reinson said.
A generator will also be installed at the Renaissance water tower, which currently doesn’t have one.
The other locations are at the three firehouses. Firehouses No. 1 and 2 have old generators that do function, but No. 3 doesn’t have one at all.
“The proposed plan is three this year and two next year. The designs are already done,” said Reinson.
“For funding we will use capital funds authorized previously for this purpose,” Business Administrator Robert Lombard said.
This will become part of the fiscal year 2006.
