MONTGOMERY Deputy Mayor Karen Wintress announced this week she will seek another term on the Township Committee.
There is one seat on the five-member committee to be filled in the fall election.
The Montgomery Democratic Organization unanimously endorsed Ms. Wintress’ bid for re-election.
"We could not have hoped to find another candidate with Karen’s experience and ability," said Doreen Blanc Rockstrom, chairwoman of the Montgomery Democratic Organization.
Ms. Wintress is seeking her second full term on the committee. In 2001, she was elected to fill one year of an unexpired term and has served as deputy mayor since taking office in January 2002. She was re-elected to a three-year term later that year.
During those four years, Ms. Wintress has been a member of the Environmental Commission, the Economic Development Commission and the Municipal Alliance an organization formed to tackle problems facing the township’s youth. She also has been a member of the Planning Board and Master Plan Committee.
"I feel blessed to have the opportunity to serve in this way, and I am very much looking forward to continuing this work," Ms. Wintress said.
Ms. Wintress cited some of her accomplishments: "Development is under control, our traffic-relief plan is being implemented and the township’s finances are in order."
Mayor Louise Wilson noted, "Karen’s steady presence, business experience and her excellent judgment have been essential to the progress we are making in so many areas."
Ms. Wintress said she wishes to continue community involvement in townshipwide decision-making.
"We must continue to give residents meaningful ways to connect and contribute, to uphold Montgomery’s long tradition of strong, cohesive community," Ms. Wintress said.
"At a time of stresses and challenges taxes, traffic, growth we must take every opportunity to create new links that bring people together on common ground," Ms. Wintress said.
