CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, announced that its cancer program has received three-year accreditation as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, which sets the standard for cancer care programs in the nation.
This is a higher level of accreditation than in the past, reflecting, among other things, the program’s rising patient volume, involvement in clinical trials, and attention to pain management.
CentraState is a clinical research affiliate of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The collaboration gives CentraState and its patients access to the latest breakthroughs in cancer research and clinical trials. CentraState also works with the American Cancer Society to provide its service area with screenings, education, support groups and other cancer awareness activities.
CentraState also announced that the medical center is setting new records in patient satisfaction. For the fourth quarter in 2004, CentraState scored in the top 5 percent for inpatient care out of 883 hospitals nationwide; scored in the top 5 percent for outpatient services out of 638 hospitals nationwide, and scored in the top 3 percent for ambulatory surgery out of 713 hospitals nationwide.
Press Ganey Associates, a patient satisfaction measurement and improvement firm, tabulated the scores.
Several departments consistently rate high with patients, scoring in the top 10 percent when compared to peer hospitals nationwide. They include 4E medical/surgery, maternity, oncology, cardiac care unit, short stay unit, room cleanliness, cardiac testing, EEG (electroencephalogram), laboratory, the Women’s Center, nuclear medicine, stress testing, the Wound Care Center and outpatient registration.
Freehold Hyundai has been named to the Hyundai Board of Excellence by Hyundai Motor America. The award recognizes dealerships that have achieved exceptional levels of sales and customer satisfaction over the past year. This is the sixth year the dealership has received this award.
Hyundai Motor America has honored its top dealers through the Board of Excellence program since 1998. Only 81 out of more than 660 dealerships received the recognition this year.
Hyundai established a new all-time annual sales record in 2004, with 418,615 vehicles sold — a 5 percent improvement over 2003 sales. Hyundai Motor America, based in Fountain Valley, Calif., is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Co. of Korea.

Schoor DePalma, a Manalapan-based engineering and consulting firm, announced that it has hired Susan C. Phillips, P.E., A.I.C.P., as a senior project manager in the Traffic Planning Division.
Phillips, who has more than 20 years of transportation engineering experience, is knowledgeable in the planning, design and coordination efforts required for major transportation projects. In her new position at Schoor DePalma, she will be responsible for client satisfaction, ensuring on-time and on-budget projects as well as the expansion and enhancement of Schoor DePalma’s traffic planning services from the firm’s Kulpsville, Pa., office.
