Headed for the Northern Burlington County Regional High School, the Lawrence girls varsity lacrosse team’s bus missed its exit and ended up all the way in Delaware this past Monday.
When the upstart Lawrence club finally reached its destination over an hour and a half later, it still appeared to be a little "lost" in a game which the Greyhounds dominated 18-1.
NBC, which was in Lawrence’s position not that many years ago, graduated several stars last spring. However, what remains is a deeper and more well-balanced unit.
"I thought we came out pretty confident and comfortable. They were pretty relaxed," said NBC’s head coach Dave Adam of his squad.
"They work really well together. We’re taking more chances now. We have a lot of kids with experience."
While Justine Titko made a little noise as a varsity player for the Greyhounds last season in Monday’s opener she pushed her game to the next level with six goals and an assist.
"It was kind of like a coming out party for her (Titko)," added Adam.
Meanwhile, Alyssa Pigott, already an established star, had a hat trick.
"Alyssa (Pigott) and her (Titko) are the best of friends. They work pretty well together," said Adam, who enjoyed the beautiful passing he saw in the contest.
Amanda Lowe had two goals and two assists and Alyna Morris had a pair of goals for the victors.
Devi Hensch, Brooke Price, Nikole Such, Danielle Chuba (an assist), Brittany Bauma each contributed a tally to NBC’s cause.
The Greyhounds had 36 shots.
"They (Lawrence) had one shot in the first half and they had one shot in the second half," Adam remarked.
NBC goaltender Amanda MaGee only had to make one save to earn the win. Still, with tougher games ahead on the schedule Adam would like to see his solid defense to be more on its toes. But he likes the fact that his team is more aggressive this season.
NBC was scheduled to host Cinnaminson yesterday (Wednesday). On Saturday NBC is scheduled at Hopewell Valley. Then on Monday NBC is scheduled to host Delran.
Northern Burlington will now see how many more team it can give that "lost" feeling to.
