JAMESBURG — The borough’s Human Relations Committee, in conjunction with the Jamesburg Area Chamber of Commerce, has placed four new drop boxes for nonperishable food items at locations around the borough.
Food collected at the boxes will be donated to the Jamesburg Presbyterian Church’s Deacons Food Cupboard.
The boxes are located at Borough Hall on Perrineville Road, Subway Sandwiches on West Railroad Avenue, the Little Shop of Treasures on West Railroad Avenue and at Family Framers on East Railroad Avenue.
The Deacons Food Cupboard, which is operating out of its temporary headquarters at the First Baptist Church on Gatzmer Avenue, saw a decrease in the number of people who attended its most recent monthly grocery distribution (from 83 families in February to 73 in March).
But the pantry’s director, Susan Schneider-Baker, who also chairs the Human Services Committee, said the pantry is still running short on supplies.
Ms. Schneider-Baker said that with the onset of spring, the pantry’s needs have changed slightly. She said hay fever means that Kleenex will be in greater demand during the next few weeks than in winter; and that with the improving weather, the pantry also needs more condiments like mayonnaise, relish, catsup and mustard.
She said the pantry is also in need of pasta, Similac Advance and Similac with iron infant formula, diapers and wipes and canned fruits and vegetables.
Nonperishable, canned, jarred or boxed foods, Kleenex and paper products can be left at any of the drop boxes in the borough. Monetary donations in the form of a check made out the Presbyterian Deacons also are welcome and can be given by calling the church office at (732) 521-1711.
