Jen Grabowski placed in four different events in the open part of the Notre Dame Relays this past Saturday.
The really good news for Allentown, however, is that Grabowski’s coach believes she can do even better.
"She had a good day, but she was disappointed with where her marks were," noted Allentown Coach Jacqueline Mulryne. "She’ll get better results as the season goes along."
Wet field conditions and wind slowed down runs and limited jumps. Even so, Grabowski won the high jump at 5-2, which is a new meet record. Grabowski placed third in the 400 (1:03), third in the long jump (15-6 1/2) and fourth in the triple jump (29-11).
In other open results, Safya White was fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:14.6) and fifth in the 400 (1:05.3). Lina Sancilio was second in the javelin (111 feet).
Allentown also had several teams place in the freshman/sophomore relay portion. Brittany Loriquet and Racquel Redwood won the long jump with a combined distance of 27-11. Loriquet and Redwood also set a new school record of 55-6 while placing second in the triple jump.
Lauren Theobold’s 6 feet was enough to place fourth in the pole vault. Natalie Howell and Brittany O’Brien were third in the javelin at 119-1.
Allentown also placed three relay teams in races. Kristen Qutub, Quiana Volney, Erin Donaghy and Sarah Reuning placed fourth in the distance medley with a time of 14:21. Loriquet and Volney were third in the 2X400 hurdles at 2:32. Qutub, Donaghy, Reuning and Courtney Lee were fifth in the 4X800 in a time of 12:09.
"I thought we did very well," Mulryne said. "The girls had a lot of fun at the meet. It was a very fun, pleasing day."
In regular season action on Wednesday, April 6, Allentown was defeated by a talented Ewing team, 75-47.
Angelina Sancilio placed in all three of the throwing events for Allentown. Sancilio won the javelin (113-11) and shot (30-5) and placed second in the discus (88-3).
Other points in the throwing events came courtesy of Lui’s third in the discus (78-3), Hernandez’s third in the javelin (66-7) and Bonnie Kizis’ second in the shot (27-10).
Allentown swept the pole vault, with Racquel Redwood first (7 feet), Kate Vorsuk second (6 feet) and Chelsey Quaglietta third (6 feet).
Grabowski won the high jump (5-2) and also added a third in the 100 (13.1). The triple jump and long jump, two other events Grabowski does well, were not held because of wet pit conditions.
White placed in two events for Allentown as well, coming in third in the 400 (1:05.6) and third in the 400 hurdles (1:16.7). Bisola Egbe was second in the 110 high hurdles in 18.4.
Jessica Archer and Erin Donaghy also placed in two events. Archer was second in the 1600 (5:56.9) and third in the 800 (2:39.2). Donaghy was second in the 3200 (13:18.6) and third in the 1600 (6:02.7). Allison Donaghy added a third in the 3200 (13:20.1).
Allentown was scheduled to host West Windsor North yesterday. Allentown will take part in the Mercer County Relays, which will start at 9 a.m. Saturday at Steinert High School. Allentown will be at Hightstown for a meet starting at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
